Strategy

Generating ideas to reduce greenhouse gases will not be difficult. There are literally thousands of ways we can reduce energy consumption.

The challenge will be to select appropriate ideas that will have a likely chance of success by CCC Action Teams. The actions must also inspire enough volunteer energy and passion to engage people. To achieve these goals, we have developed a process for selecting ideas and for designing subsequent action campaigns.

We have identified criteria for any CCC action. In order for an idea to be adopted by the CCC, it must:

  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions
  • Be achievable within a relatively short timeframe (eg, 6 months)
  • Allow the CCC to disconnect from issue at the end of the action (In other words, another entity would implement the actual greenholuse gas strategy, in most cases.)
  • Be quantifiable. The greenhouse gas emission saving can be measured or at least estimated.
  • Inspire significant support and energy from volunteers to work on the campaign.

Preferred actions may have the additional benefit to the immediate local environment or community such as those that reduce air pollution or financially benefit an under-resourced community or population.

Ideas can be submitted to the CCC in advance of a public meeting or at the meeting.

  • At a public meeting, the ideas would be presented by the idea authors to the meeting participants;
  • Participants will vote on the winning idea;
  • Small groups of 8-12 people will be formed into Climate Action teams. These teams will start relationship building and researching the topic idea. They will meet with key decision makers and form alliances, if necessary, and create agreements. The CCC board will help guide the action teams.

At the end of the action, we will celebrate our success and efforts!!
